Details and limitations

Voices are provided by your operating system or browser, so the list differs between Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and between browsers. Voices marked “online” may send the text to the vendor’s servers; the others run on your device.

Long text is split into sentences and read one after another, which avoids the cut-off some browsers have with long passages. The page itself does not upload or store your text.

FAQ

Can I download the speech as an MP3?

No. The browser speech API plays audio but does not give web pages access to the recording, so this tool cannot create audio files.

Why can’t I find a voice for my language?

Only voices installed on your device are listed. Add a voice in your system’s language or speech settings (for example Windows “Speech” settings or macOS “Spoken Content”), then reload the page.

Is my text sent anywhere?

This page does not send it. If you choose a voice marked “online”, your browser or system may send the text to the vendor that provides that voice.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, in current mobile browsers. On iPhone and iPad, the device’s silent switch can mute speech.
