Details and limitations

Umm al-Qura is the calendar Saudi Arabia uses for official dates. The civil (tabular) calendar uses a fixed 30-year cycle and can differ from it by a day or two.

The start of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah is announced after moon sighting, which can move the actual date by a day. Use the official announcement for religious dates.

FAQ

Which Hijri calendar should I choose?

Choose Umm al-Qura for dates used in Saudi Arabia and most official documents. The civil calendar is an arithmetic calendar used in some software and historical tables.

Why is my converted date one day off?

Calculated calendars cannot know local moon sightings. Countries that start months after sighting the crescent may be a day ahead of or behind the calculated date.

Can I convert dates before 1882?

Not with this tool. The supported range is Hijri 1300–1600, where the browser’s Umm al-Qura data is reliable.
