Details and limitations
Metadata is read with exifr and removed in your browser; the photo is not uploaded. JPEG and PNG files are cleaned byte by byte without re-encoding; other formats are re-encoded as PNG.
For JPEG, the ICC color profile and the Adobe color-transform segment are kept, and a rotated photo keeps only its orientation tag so it is not shown sideways. Data appended after the image, such as embedded preview images, is removed.
FAQ
How can I see where a photo was taken?
Open the photo here. If it contains GPS data, the coordinates and a map link are shown under Location. Many apps strip GPS when sharing, so a missing location is common.
Does removing EXIF data reduce image quality?
Not for JPEG or PNG: only metadata blocks are cut out and the compressed image data is copied unchanged. Other formats such as HEIC or WebP are re-encoded as PNG, which is lossless but can make the file larger.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Reading and removing metadata both happen in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server.
