Meme Generator — Make a Meme with Your Own Image

Free meme generator: upload your own image, add classic top and bottom text with white letters and black outline, or a caption bar, then download PNG or JPG.

Convert in your browser · No sign-up

Use your own JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image · up to 20 MB and 24 megapixels

Long text wraps onto more lines and shrinks automatically to fit, using up to 30% of the image height for each block. Text uses the Impact font when your device has it, otherwise a similar bold font.

How to use

  1. Choose an image of your own: a photo, a screenshot or a drawing.
  2. Type the top and bottom text, or a caption to show in a white bar above the picture, and adjust the text size and caps.
  3. Check the live preview and download the meme as PNG or JPG.

Example

A photo of a cat on a keyboard, top text “i'll just check one thing”, bottom text “3 hours later” → a meme with bold white text and a black outline at the top and bottom.

Details and limitations

No meme templates are bundled: you use your own image, so make sure you have the right to use it. Large images are scaled down to 2400 px on the longest side.

The meme is drawn on a canvas in your browser. Your image and text are never uploaded.

FAQ

What font do memes use?

Classic memes use Impact: bold, condensed white letters with a black outline. This tool uses Impact when it is installed on your device and otherwise falls back to Anton, Arial Black or another bold sans-serif font, so the look can vary slightly between devices.

How do I make a meme with a caption on top?

Type in the Caption above the image box. The tool adds a white bar above your picture with black text that wraps to fit the width. You can combine it with top and bottom text.

Why did my text get smaller?

Each text block can use up to 30% of the image height. When the text would not fit at the chosen size, it shrinks step by step until it does. Shorten the text or use a taller image to keep it larger.
