Convert in your browser · No sign-up

One PDF · up to 30 MB · decrypted on your device

You need the password. This tool does not crack, guess or bypass unknown passwords. Only remove protection from files you are allowed to modify.

How to use

  1. Choose the protected PDF. The tool shows which encryption it uses.
  2. Enter the password you were given, either the password to open or the permissions password.
  3. Select Unlock PDF and download the copy without a password.

Example

statement.pdf (AES-256) + the correct password → statement-unlocked.pdf, which opens without a prompt.

Details and limitations

Supports the standard PDF password methods: AES-256, AES-128 and RC4 (40- and 128-bit), including files with compressed object streams as written by Acrobat, Word and qpdf. Certificate-based encryption is not supported.

Decryption runs in your browser; neither the file nor the password is sent anywhere. A wrong password simply fails — there is no limit on attempts, and nothing is guessed for you.

FAQ

Can this remove a PDF password I forgot?

No. Without the password the content cannot be decrypted, and this tool does not try to guess it. Ask the sender for the password or for an unprotected copy.

How do I remove printing or copying restrictions from a PDF?

If the PDF opens without a password and only has restrictions, the tool offers to save a copy without them. Do this only for files you are allowed to modify.

Is the unlocked PDF identical to the original?

The pages and their content are kept. The file is rewritten without encryption, so its size can change and any digital signature stops validating.
