Szczegóły i ograniczenia
Recognition uses tesseract.js and runs in your browser; the image is not uploaded. The engine and language data are downloaded from a public CDN (jsDelivr) the first time and cached by the browser.
Works best on clear, horizontal printed text with good contrast. Handwriting, decorative fonts, very small text and rotated or curved lines are often misread, so check the result.
FAQ
How do I extract text from a screenshot?
Take the screenshot, open this page and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac) to paste it, choose the language and click Extract text.
Can it read Chinese, Japanese or Arabic text?
Yes. Select Simplified or Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic or another listed language before extracting. Pick the language that matches the image; mixed-language images may need two passes.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is processed in your browser. Only the OCR engine and language files are downloaded from a CDN; nothing about your image is sent.
Is this image to text converter free? Are there limits?
Yes, it is free with no account, no sign-up and no daily quota, because recognition runs on your own device. Each run takes one image (up to 20 MB and 24 megapixels) or one PDF (up to 30 MB, 20 pages per run). Large images and many pages take longer on slower devices.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac?
Yes. It runs in a modern browser on any of them, so there is nothing to install. Your system may also have a built-in option: Live Text on iPhone, iPad and Mac lets you select text in photos, and the Snipping Tool on Windows 11 has Text Actions for copying text from a screenshot.
Can it read handwriting?
Only poorly. The OCR engine is trained for printed text, so handwritten notes are often misread or skipped. It works best on clear printed text such as screenshots, documents and signs.
Does it keep the formatting, or can I export to Word?
The result is plain text: line breaks are kept, but fonts, tables, columns and images are not. Copy the text into Word or Google Docs, or download it as a .txt file, and format it there.
How do I extract vertical Japanese or Chinese text?
Choose Japanese (vertical), Simplified Chinese (vertical) or Traditional Chinese (vertical) as the language. These use models trained for top-to-bottom columns; the normal options expect horizontal lines.
Can it read text from a PDF?
Yes. Choose a scanned or image-only PDF (up to 30 MB) and enter the pages to read, up to 20 per run; each page's text is marked with a "--- Page N ---" line. If the PDF already has selectable text, copying it directly is faster and exact.
