Korean Romanization — Hangul to English Letters (Revised Romanization)

Romanize Korean with the official Revised Romanization, including sound changes (종로 → jongno, 신라 → silla). Name mode writes Korean names the way passports usually do (김민준 → Kim Min-jun), and initials mode extracts 초성.

Подробности и ограничения

Revised Romanization spells words as they are pronounced, so assimilation is applied: 신라 silla, 왕십리 wangsimni, 학여울 hangnyeoul.

In nouns the official rules keep the h of an aspirated sound (묵호 Mukho, 집현전 Jiphyeonjeon); this tool writes them as pronounced (muko, jipyeonjeon), so check place names against official signs.

FAQ

Why is my surname Kim and not Gim?

Surnames have long-established spellings: 김 Kim, 이 Lee, 박 Park, 최 Choi. Name mode uses those common passport spellings; standard mode gives the strict romanization (gim).

Should a given name have a hyphen?

Both Min-jun and Minjun are allowed. Name mode shows the hyphenated form and the passport-style capital form (KIM MINJUN); use the spelling already on your passport.

What does initials mode do?

It extracts the initial consonants (초성), for example 사과 → ㅅㄱ, which is useful for word games and searches.
